The Experience
A Hybrid Documentary Approach
Documentary photography has reinvented the ways of wedding photography and rightfully so - it's the most original yet contemporary and paradigmatic way to approach an event and achieve genuine, characteristic, emotional, and candid photographs. While this 19th century photography style is all the modern-day rage, the truth is, is that it's not for everyone. As a wedding photographer myself, I urge all my clients to fully understand, inside and out, what exactly documentary photography is - what it means, what it looks like, how it's approached, and furthermore what it actually means for the client!
In addition to all of the above, it is vital to the photography process for my couples to understand specifically how I've integrated documentary photography into the experience I deliver!

A Hybrid Documentary Approach
Simply put, documentary photography includes a hands-off approach where no direction, guidance, or communication is provided by the photographer; thus resulting in authentic, characteristic, candid, natural imagery.
Through my eleven plus years of first-hand experience as a photographer, I've learned that while us humans document our daily lives through our mobile devices, most of us don't actually possess professional camera experience with a professional photographer. Being in front of the camera is an especially vulnerable act which is all the more reason as to why I strongly feel as though it's vital that clients feel supported and guided through communication from the photographer navigating them through the entirety of the experience. Furthermore, it's an unrealistic expectation of the photographer to expect the client to be confident and comfortable posing, directing, and prompting themselves.
Instead, I've found much more success in providing a hybrid documentary photography experience where I am directive and supportive in my approach, and provide guidance when necessary. All in conjunction with a hands-off documentary approach that includes observing, existing, and documenting from a distance.

Who I Am
I'm a hopeless romantic to my core ---- there's no doubt I'm in the right industry. I constantly find myself romanticizing over love stories, relationships, weddings that aren't mine, but yours. It's who I am and forever more who I'll always be.
Being a wedding photographer may be a choice, but it's also my calling; a purpose I knew I was destined for at a young age. Even at 29 years old, my heart is fully committed now more than it ever has been to being a vessel meant to serve, create, build, reinvent, educate, and give others a gift all through the ultimate gift that I have been given.
I'm incredibly blessed and my gratitude for all of my couples extends beyond any distance I could ever measure.

While I'm a wedding photographer, I'm many other things too. I'm a wife, sister, daughter, the cool aunt, cousin, and friend to all who are in my circle.
I was born and raised in Olympia, Washington to a big family. Big crowds, chaos, and noise is all I've ever known, it's my version of normal. I'm the oldest child of five siblings ---- you could say I'm my brother's and sister's honorary mom. It's my nature to nurture.
I went to college for pre-law at Grand Canyon University, and in the meantime served as paralegal. Prior to college, I fell in love with my soulmate, and partway through college, I married him!
My husband Jake and I had the best of both worlds! We eloped out of state at a National Park, and held out nearly five and a half years later for our dream wedding and honeymoon on the island of Santorini, off the coast of Greece! It was the ultimate dream come true and was the experience of a lifetime. You can take a look at our wedding here!
Together Jake and I have two golden retrievers, our girl Comet, and our boy Cash. They're the greatest fluffiest joys of our lives, and while they make me smile and laugh on the daily, they definitely know how to test me too!
I'm a sucker for a lot of things ---- from romance all the way to a gooey fudgy brownie.
I live in the heart of Oregon's famous Willamette Valley, also known as wine country. I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I totally dig a red wine! My meal of choice is always a caesar salad and/or a juicy cheeseburger! Any of the above and I'm a happy camper!
My favorite seasons are wedding season, and holiday season ---- I'm forever and always a sunny and 75° kind of gal! The holidays are such a special and joyful time of the year for me, but like the hopeless romantic I'll always be, my absolute favorite holiday is Valentine's Day! It has been ever since I can remember, for lots of reasons!
