I can’t believe I’m finally saying this but… welcome to MY WEDDING!
After five and a half years of marriage, my husband Jake and I finally got to have our dream wedding at our dream destination on the Greek island of Santorini. We originally eloped secretively on January 13th, 2018 while Jake was active duty military. In that time of our lives, we were in such an unpredictable phase that planning a wedding wasn’t in the cards. We didn’t have friends or family present, no one knew and we actually kept that secret for 10 whole months. I didn’t wear a white dress, Jake didn’t wear a suit, we never said vows – we literally signed the paper work and went about life.
A year later, Jake deployed. After his deployment and he was officially separated from the military, we decided to finally start the wedding planning process. Not but two weeks later, a global pandemic struck and we had to postpone a year, and then another year, and then another year…
Once the world finally reopened, we decided to revisit having a wedding. We toured venues, inquired with vendors, did consultations, and honestly, nothing felt right. Our hearts truly weren’t in it the way they once were. We felt as though having a more traditional wedding with all of our people and all the “stuff” just wasn’t us.
Since we went about things in such an unconventional and untraditional way in all other aspects of our relationship, it only felt right to continue the trend and keep things unconventional and untraditional.
In 2021, we started officially planning Greece. We decided that we still needed to do something for ourselves, but to do things our way. We chose to take the honeymoon we never got to have, and picked one day while we were there to have the wedding we never had. Where we would wear the dress and suit we never wore, say the vows we never wrote, and celebrate our love together, just the two of us.
Here is that day.
